Greetings, SJV Parish Family …
Today is the first day of spring ... nature’s reminder that new life is on its way.
I wish all of you my prayerful support during these COVID-19 times.
In keeping with the Center for Disease Control, Bishop Zinkula has instructed all parishes not to have public celebrations of the Mass for the time being. All Catholics are excused from the obligation to participate in the Mass for the duration of this unprecedented situation.
In the meantime, I invite you to continue to pray as a family. There are many resources on our parish website - sjvbett.org - including daily televised Masses, video rosaries, The Word Among Us, and Magnificat websites. Additional prayer resources will continue to be added.
Our diocesan website is also a good source of information:
For detailed questions and answers about Coronavirus and its impact on our diocese: davenportdiocese.org/QA;
For an abundance of prayer and support resources, including faith formation for families and children: davenportdiocese.org/prayer-and-support.
Finally, I encourage you to continue supporting your favorite charities, as well as Saint John Vianney. If you are able, please continue your financial stewardship with your contributions, either via mail (4097 18th St., Bettendorf) or online via our website. Your ongoing generosity will assist us in assisting others, as well as support parish needs that do not go away.
Even though we are not able to celebrate Eucharist with each other, we can certainly make an act of spiritual communion. This is the prayer of Saint Francis Liguori:
My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never let me be separated from You.
